A Changing Yuma

This week begins the changing landscape at 16th St and 4th Ave here in Yuma Arizona. The building formerly a doctor's office and another building formerly an auto parts store and a deli are now gone, razed and hauled to the recycling mill of our memory. The round  building that once housed a bank and gold pawn shop are next  along with the an old grocery store and movie theater next on the block sometime later in the year. With the Mortuary being the last vestige of Yuma the way it was. The retail shopping mall Southgate, has already suffered the same fate as the others. All of these buildings hold memories for those of us old enough to remember and those of us young enough to wonder. Christmas time was the best time of year at the mall. The Christmas tree salesman in the parking lot by Sears. The decorated light posts. The Christmas music while you shopped in the mall. The package wrapping tables for the gift wrapping challe...

Elvis

I was thinking about Elvis Presley the other day on the occasion of the 37th anniversary of his untimely death. I don't see Elvis through the prism of the King of Rock and Roll legacy. I see him through the looking glass of a much more meaningful legacy. One of regular man. A man who was generous, gregarious, and sometimes dark, the same as those of us who are regular men, and not the king of anything. Elvis was raised dirt poor. So he did what he had to do to make life better for his family, within the law. We all do this on a regular basis. That is what being a real man is about. He made enough money in his lifetime to take care of 4 generations of his family. The very thing that made everyone's life better was obtained at the cost of his own. He sacrificed himself so his family could have a better life. The fame brought a life made simple, for everyone but Elvis. To gain this fame he had to do things that he probably wouldn't have done otherwise, and it took a toll on ...

Missouri Shooting

Here is how it is going to lay out for the policeman. If it proven that the police officer shot the young man after no confrontation. If the officer just shot him for whatever reason, then the officer is guilty, and should go to jail. If it proven that the young man tried to get the officers gun, and was fought off and the young man ran, and was shot then the officer made a mistake and id guilty. If the young man tried to take the officers gun was fought off ran, and turned and ran BACK toward the officer then the officer is in reasonable fear for his life, because the young man could be coming for the gun again. If that is the case then the officer is justified in shooting him. Nothing else natters, not him going to college, stealing cigars, either's home life. The only thing that matters is whether he scuffled, ran and then ran back at the officer. Anything short of that then the officer is guilty, not of a hate crime, or murder, but he is guilty of making a mistake.

President Changed His Mind.

So how about the President changing his mind about the Army selling war material to the local police? The rhetoric I get from the Progressive Liberals is that the only ones who should have guns are the military and the police. There is no difference in my mind between a gun that I don't have and they do, and a tank that they have and I don't. Both could be used to oppress the population. I believe that the President is overreacting. He doesn't like what he saw in Missouri, as do I,  and I guess he blames the police for having equipment that protects them from thugs. It couldn't be the fault of the thugs who were looting and burning down private property. No it was all the police departments problem. It takes two to tangle people. Without one there wouldn't be the other.

Right Handed Cups.

I was drinking from my trusty 32oz cup. I am left handed, and it kept dripping. Now this is the third cup that I have had and they have all leaked. So I decided to start drinking from the right handed side. I tried this on another Love's cup, my big travel mug. I got the same outcome. It seems that when I drink the left handed they leak, but not when I drink them right handed. So I have come to the conclusion that Whirly Industries the maker of the cup, right handed cups. As a left person it is not surprising, as not much in the is world is made for left handed people. Oh well. just another random thought from the west end .

Thoughts on Robin Williams

I am going to comment on Robin Williams. I was about 14 or so when he did Mork and Mindy, and I like everyone else thought that he was very funny. It wasn't until I saw him later on the Actors Studio with James Lipton that I saw the genius. He took a scarf from the audience and entertained them with it for about 20 minutes. I saw that and thought to myself, that is a genius. I watched his T.V. sho w this last year, and thought it was better than Two and a Half Men, and a bunch of other shows that are returning. "Good Morning Vietnam," and "The Best of Times, The Sergeant Major looks at him and say's; " what does three and three down mean to you, Williams replies, "the end of an inning." Every time I saw that he was going to be on a late night show, no matter who's show it was, I always made it a point to catch it. He is the only one I have ever done that with. I have lived with someone with severe depression, and I have seen what it can do. ...
