Elvis August 16, 2017

I have said this before on this forum, but it bears repeating on this the 40th anniversary of his passing. While Elvis was the king of rock and roll, a movie star and a celebrity, we must also remember he was also a human being, and a good man. He grew up dirt poor, and would have stayed as such, had he not been a singer and movie star. He did what he had to do to take care of his family. That is what good men do. Let us not forget that. By dying young he paid a terrible price for taking care of the next 5 or 6 generations of his family. With fame comes money, and with money comes heartache, and pain. Elvis had his share of both. Elvis brought all that on by himself. But we all do that. We just do it differently. Dying young was the price to be paid for everyone else having a better life. We all do the same thing, whether it be a carpenter, lineman, truck driver, mason or whatever we do to make a living. We work to better our lives, and the lives of our families. Sometimes the cost is an early grave, bad back, bad eyesight, or whatever aliment we get from a life's work. We do it because we are good people. We must never forget the sacrafice. So while the world notes the death of the King of Rock and Roll, I note the death of a good father, son, and friend. That is how I choose to remember Elvis. I like his singing too.
