Capitalism/Socialism

You ever listen to the HUAC hearings. I am not saying all of the people resorted to Communism, but some did because capitalism had taken their livelihood. Communism had all but died out in this country, in the 1920's, when Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover (name sound familiar) had proclaimed the 1920's a new era” of permanent prosperity where corporations would de-emphasize short term profits to produce better and cheaper products. Workers would “democratize” capitalism by owning stocks and bonds. Then the small number of poor would be generously cared for by private charity. This was the capitalist utopia. The utopia that collapsed in the great stock market crash of October 1929. Then came the 1930's, the single worst decade in our history. The 1930's were even worse than the 1860's or 1960's.  With the dawning of the new decade came untold misery. A misery we inflicted on ourselves, and a misery that was worldwide. A misery that brought about death, genoci...

Grandchildren and COVID-19

I have a compromised respiratory, and immune system. and have been contemplating picking my wife Rhonda up at our daughters home in Lajunta CO. She went up there in mid March to be with our daughter to help her with her first pregnancy. Our grandchild Elijah David Mel Hiner was born on April 29, 2020. Our other grand children Syrus, and Chole May live here in Yuma. I have been hesitant to visit the kids here in Yuma because of the virus. Syrus has a health issue, and Elijah is but a week old, so I don't want to endanger them. I really would like to take the 9 year old Syrus fishing, sit and read Dr. Seuss books with Chole, and I would like to see little Eli, for the first time. I haven't seen my nephew's children Zane, and Madix either, because of this virus. I miss the children. This virus won't last forever, and I will get a chance to see them sooner rather than later. Right now it is best to stay away.

A Word on COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic is the worst we have seen in this world in over 6 generations and 100 years. It has decimated families and economies worldwide in just 4 months, and will continue to affect the world at least until a vaccine can be developed. The initial social distancing treatment has seemed to work, The question now is; when to relax the social distancing restrictions in order to get the economy, and life in general back to something akin to normalcy. Getting back to` life the way it was before the restrictions is going to be a state by state decision, not a federal one. Governors need to make

CORVID 19 Fear

Some think that we as society need to open and get back to work, and that all people that are susceptible to infl uenza should be culled from the herd and just left to let nature take it's course. That if they can't handle the changes, that they should stay home. For some of us it isn't fear of the unknown, It is the fear of the known. The fear of two times a year when we can't breathe, hacking up pieces of lung or whatever it was. The fear is the feeling when breathing becomes so constricted as to gasp for air. Or coughing for so long that it hurts from the diaphragm, and you can't stop coughing. Having to sleep sitting upright. An d all the while having to work to make a living sick or not. No one showed me any empathy when I lost money because of a virus. I have risked my life at my vocation for my entire adult life, with a virus and without any problems. with it. I have brand new grand son, and two other grand children not to mention grand nephews, that I want t...
