Gaetz Rant.

At one time in my life, I was not the gregarious, affable individual before you today. I once was an angry young man, who was angry with the world, because the world was angry with me. I did and said things that hurt quite a few people. For no other reason than I was being a jerk. Because different non profane people will read this, I will attempt to keep the vulgarity to a minimum.   When I was 10 years old, I made a remark to a young lady about her weight. It is the most odious and disrespectful comment I have ever made to a female. I referred to the young lady as fat, and compared her to a type of cooking oil that starts with the letter L. This young lady hated me for the better part of 47 years, and rightfully so. I made attempts to apologize, but to no avail. My apologies over the years were sincere, and empathetic. This isn’t about me or my being a jerk. This is about a leader of people disparaging a a segment, and how inappropriate it was then, and is now. ...

Technology

They will figure out a way  to get rid of the batteries. Just like they figured out how to fix the problems with solar 40 odd years ago. I asked this question of a Jr. High school teacher in 1979; "why are we using a finite energy resource like crude oil, and  coal, when we could be using an infinite resource like the sun, considering the sun shines here 98% of the time?"  The teacher Mrs. Moody answered this 14 year old with; "the technology hasn't caught up yet." At that time technology was advancing at about every year or so. Now technology advances every 3 to 6 months.  Like with the electric light, the automobile, and the airplane, technology will solve the problems, because all new concepts have problems in the beginning. It has been that way since the beginning of time, and will be so in perpetuity. To dismiss it because of something so banal and inane as politics, is to look backward, and not forward. It is good that some have the foresight to look ahe...

Logistics

A new rail spur from San Luis is a good idea. It should be far east side of the city of Yuma. The spur should connect with the UP main between 7E, and 9E on the NS of Interstate 8. There is an industrial park between Araby, and 8E. We need to start utilizing that space for warehousing, and distribution centers for retail and service corporations. If at anytime that the ports on the west coast are at capacity, then another port in Mexico, could bring freight up here. Autonomous trucks, and trucks with alternative sources of power are coming, so we need to start to plan our logistics and supply chain accordingly. Over the road freight is on its way out. The new generation of driver doesn’t like the lifestyle. So a perfect storm of new truck technology, and a new driver dynamic, should come a new logistics model to do the business of moving freight. The time has come for more distribution centers, and intermodal yards. Intermodal freight can be transported quicker by train, than ove...

Death Penalty

A person  does certain crimes a certain way, they pay the consequences. Not for closure, justice, or any other lofty, or dubiously moral reason, just consequences. There are consequences to everything we do, whether those consequences are bad or good is up to us as individuals. We all have to pay for the things we have done or said. Closure is an illusion, justice is fleeting, and revenge is unsatisfying. The only good reason left with any grain of finality is consequences.
