Barry Goldwater, Religion and the Republican Party;

"I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in "A," "B," "C" and "D." Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me? "They must learn to make their views known without trying to make their views the only alternatives." " I can say with conviction that the religious issues of these groups have little or nothing to do with conservative or liberal politics." "The uncompromising position of these groups is a divisive element that could tear apart the very spirit of our representative system, if they gain sufficient strength." Goldwater was correct, They will be the ruin of the Republican Party, if Trump doesn't ruin it first. This lady is religon shaping the Republican Party. It is ok if the President ha s spiritual ...

Stupid Wall

So they built the wall to be cut through, and then didn't leave money (it is all spent on the barrier) to hire agents to monitor the wall. Really? "We have a very powerful wall. But no matter how powerful, you can cut through anything, in all fairness. But we have a lot of people watching. You know cutting, cutting is one thing, but it's easily fixed. One of the reasons we did it the way we did it, it's very easily fixed. You put the chunk back in,” Trump said. This is my fav orite part of the BS right here; “The bollards are not the most evolved design; they are the most evolved that we could pay for,” Ronald Vitiello, former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, told the Post. “We never said they would be an end-all, be-all.” They said that the wall was what was needed, because it was 97% effective. The inference, and the spending of money nowhere else, say's they thought it would be the end all. Which it is not. Here we are, sp...

Anonymous

About this new book by the same anonymous person who wrote the anonymous OP-ED awhile back. This is my opinion from before. My opinion hasn't changed it is the same for the book. From my blog. I am going to weigh in on this OP-ED, in the New York Times, that is critical of Trump. First of all, I believe that if someone is going to write an opinion piece, then they need to put their name on it. Everything that I write, say, and do, I own, no excuses, no exceptions, no purpose  of evasion. Whoever wrote this OP-ED is as Trump has said, a coward. A couple of things; I don't believe this is a "deep state" conspiracy, or a conspiracy at all. I do consider the piece to be borderline seditious. I believe it was written by someone who genuinely cares about our country, but is showing that care in the wrong manner. I don't doubt that some of the things in that piece are true, based on Trumps behavior. I read once where a man ran through Red Square shouting that "Kh...

Bill Barr

Below is why Bill Barr is a hack, and without honor. One who believes the President has absolute power, and no accountability, including the U.S. Constitutionally enumerated impeachment process. Read on: Attorney General William Barr on Friday vigorously defended President Donald Trump’s use of executive authority and suggested that House Democrats were subverting the will of voters by exploring whether to remove the president from office for abusing his power. He defended t he president’s right to set policies, steer the country’s diplomatic and military relations and keep executive branch conversations confidential from congressional oversight. “In waging a scorched-earth, no-holds-barred war against this administration, it is the left that is engaged in shredding norms and undermining the rule of law,” Barr said. He has argued, for example, that Congress cannot make it a crime for a president to exercise executive powers corruptly and that presidents have authority over ...

Party Before Country Governing

 I am not a fan of Mitch at all and disagree with his, party before country governing, but I will have to agree with him when he remarks; "You read stories of young people, incentivized I think by the faculty actually on college campuses, who don’t want to hear anything they may disagree with,” he said. “It might upset them to be exposed to a point of view that they don’t always subscribe to — being brilliant, of course, and knowing everything at 18. I think that’s troublesome .” McConnell, the top-ranking Republican in Congress, said civility is an “important thing” in a democracy. He vowed to do his part to steer political discourse away from angry tones. “I intend, for what little impact I can have on that, not to act that way,” he said. “We have plenty of incentive to get angry. But as you may have noticed, I try to stay calm, be respectful and don’t get caught up in these intense debates that we have.” The senator differentiated between the heat of campaigns and t...

Impeachment Politics

There is a spectacle playing out in Washington D.C. It is a purely political one. One that is not uncommon in D.C. When one signs on to serve at the pleasure of the President, one does so at their own peril. They know the rules, and accept the risk. Some serve out of a sense of duty, some for power, some to network, and some for the money. When everything goes bad, then everyone will do what they have to do to save themselves. Loyalty will go out the window when one is under  oath. When under oath, the truth might come out, or it might not, but one thing is for certain, the politics will come out. Everyone, no matter their ideology has an agenda when they serve, and that agenda is self preservation. Whether that preservation is their freedom, reputation, bank account or what have you, self preservation is the individual mandate, and everything comes in a close second. Politics is a dirty nasty business, that is inherently perception driven. Truth and ethics take a backseat to power...

Impeachment

There has been a great deal of discussion about impeaching President Donald Trump. The politics associated with the impeachment, has brought out the most partisan bickering in years. Trump supporters believe that the impeachment proceedings are more of a continuing witch hunt. Trump's detractors believe that an impeachment is warranted, because of a Phone call To the Ukrainian President. Some random thoughts about the hullabaloo.  When I first heard about the telephone call in question, I thought, well isn't that what we pay Trump to do; talk to other Presidents? I thought what is the big deal. Trump has to be able to talk to other leaders. He has to be able to do this without having his every move, and word, micro analysed. That is one of the products of the political climate for which Trump is partially responsible. While Trump should be afforded some leeway in his interactions with other world leaders. What he should not be doing is asking foreign leaders to open a close...

Search and Rescue Team

The tragic events at Mittry Lake this week, have brought back some not so fond memories, of another tragic event that happened in my youth. While the event didn't affect me on a personal level, it affected me on an emotional level. When I was young, my father, uncle, and a few of their friends were volunteers with the Yuma County Search and Rescue Team. When the Yuma County Sheriff Department received word of lost or missing persons in the desert or river, they would activate the volunteers, to go and search. Each person had a  unit number. They kept in communication with each other with via CB radio, and 4 wheel drive, or all terrain vehicles as they searched. The team trained on weekends, in desert survival, navigation, map reading, tracking, advanced first aid, mountain and mine rescue, and team discipline dynamics. There were quite a few military members, and former military members. At that time is was a tight knit team, that was well trained, and very motivated. Along with ...
