Trumplicanism
Trump needs to put up or shut up. He and his minions need to show proof, that there was enough malfeasance in the past election to change the outcome. Just saying there is fraud, and producing affidavits is not enough. Proof that refutes the fraud, is just as prevalent as proof that supports it. So we are at the point where there needs to be proof beyond reasonable doubt.
The narrative that the state election commissions violated the law in changing the rules is disingenuous one, because that is for the state to decide, not Trump or the government. If the state Supreme court says it was legal, then it is legal, and the SCOTUS has no jurisdiction. SCOTUS doesn't have a jurisdiction in election disputes, just fact v. law. That is how it has been, for 240 plus years before Trump misused, and abused the SCOTUS and the courts for his own benefit. The states have decided, that the vote was fair, in Georgia they counted the vote 3 times. The states themselves have deemed the election good. So be it. Trump, the other state governments, or the courts don't have the authority to overturn the will of the people.
Trump was ok with mail in ballots when they benefited him, and he never questioned them. What he did was attempt to disenfranchise mail in voters instead of, trying to gain their vote. To claim that the Democrats are bad, and Republicans to gain votes is good and is American politics. Attempting to disenfranchise voters, and overturn the will of the people, is Un-American, and fascist. Trump has never once attempted to fix the problem, that he says exists, but attempted to change the will of the people. The entire election fraud question was an Un-American ploy to win an election. That is why the SCOTUS in particular, and the other courts in general dismissed the Trump cases. The courts, the SCOTUS specifically, aren't there to settle political disputes, just fact v. law ones. That is what people don't understand.
His defense is going to be that he was correct to claim the election was fraudulent, and therefore his rhetoric was then correct. So if his rhetoric was true. Then the attack on the capitol was not an insurrection, but a peaceful protest gone horribly wrong, and that is was ANTIFA, BLM, the Chinese government, little green men from mars, or whoever he is blaming it on this week. As this is the third excuse Trump has given for the fiasco at the Capitol. Once again Trump wants to deflect from the true issue, and embark on a fallacy of his own making, and which his cult follows with bated breath and anxious anticipation.
Trump needs to put up his evidence of fraud in the election, all of it, for all the world to see if he is correct or not. I call his hand, time to show the cards. If he shows me widespread fraud, sufficient to have turned the election in his favor, then I will agree with him and issue a retraction about the lying and bs that he has inflicted on this country. I agree there are problems, as I have seen them as an election official. The time is now, to address those problems with solutions that don’t disenfranchise any segment of the voting population, not partisan politics. The problem need be fixed for the benefit of Republicans, Democrats and the voting public. In other words, for ALL not just Trump.
There is precedent to put him on trial in the Senate. The Senate trial of Secretary of War William Belknap, in 1876 provides a precedent for impeaching a member of the Executive Branch by the Legislative Branch for malfeasance in office. Let us also address this foolishness by Dershowitz and Cruz, that putting Trump on trial would lead to putting Obama, Carter, and Clinton on trial too. Thing about that is they are all Democrat President, and no mention was made of putting Bush on trial. Which screams ideological, stupidity and insanity. Which I expect from Cruz, but expected more from Dershowitz. I had respect for him, which is more than I can say for Cruz. The Impeachment was started before his term ended, just like Belknap. So the logical, and Constitutional conclusion is to finish the Impeachment Process. That is why the others can’t be tried, and anyone who suggests it is playing politics, and in my opinion looking stupid.
Donald Trump and Trumplicanism are a cancer on this Republic, and all of its people. He acts like a populist, or a Reganist, but is just an egomaniacal opportunist. He dismisses, that what he does not like, does not understand, and does not benefit from. His Trump economy, is just warmed over Reganonmics, his foreign policy he talked like Regan, and acted like Carter. On trade he talked like a populist, and acted like a globalist. On immigration he was all over the place, trying to do what most better politicians do; pander to get votes. His economy like Regan’s was humming along, but was headed for a downturn, like Reagans did, that is until the Covid hit. Regan was aggressive. When Iran blocked and attacked tankers in the Straits of Hormuz in the Mediterranean Sea, Reagan went over there and blew them to hell, they didn’t screw with for an entire generation, until Obama, and now Trump. A populist, doesn’t put decent, hardworking, honest people on the welfare role in a backhanded, and ill-fated trade war. Trump said that no other POTUS ever had the courage toengage in a trade war. The reason was not a lack of courage, but a presence of common sense, which Trump doesn’t have. Inside of two years he frittered away a market where our farmers had 70% of market share. Not they have to take more government handouts just to live, because of the trade war.
If the Republican party does not get rid of Trumplicanism, and its republic decaying ideology, it won’t win another election for awhile. Trump threatens to run candidates against candidates who crossed him. His money will run out, and so will his influence with voters. Trump is not financing a populist uprising against the establishment wing of the Republican party, he is financing revenge. Stupid people give money to him to do it. Not to help the country, but revenge, for wrongs done to him, either real, or perceived. Which in his case are perceived? What we need in 2024 is a Republican who isn’t the Constitutional cancer that Trump is. Nikki Haley would be a good start, she is tough, smart, and shrewd when it comes to diplomacy.
If the Republicans want to do some good for themselves, and this country, they will find a way to preclude Donald J. Trump from running for office ever again. That is the play.
